The i-Matter Mental Health Art Competition is intended to inspire, inform, reflect and heighten community awareness around mental health, while also reducing stigma. All visual artists grade levels kindergarten through sixth grade are invited to submit their artwork based on the theme "Why Do Elders Matter to Us?

Rules & Guidelines

Competition is open to students in grade levels Kindergarten thru Grade 6 in the Greater Los Angeles area.

Entries must portray the competition theme: WHY IS SUPPORT AND COMMUNITY IMPORTANT?

All participants must register.

To register, complete the Competition Registration Form at www.i-matter.info between April 16 through May 17, 2024.

Participants should bring their own competition-approved drawing tools (colored pens, colored pencils, crayons, or colored pens).

Must be original artwork that includes drawing or painting. Artwork must be completed on the i-Matter competition paper. It be produced in any medium such as water colors, pastels, charcoals, pencils, acrylic, crayons, paper cuttings, oil paints.

i-Matter will have a limited amount of drawing boards available to borrow at the competition. It is advised to bring your own drawing or clipboard.

Each artwork entry fee is $10. Early bird registration or group registration for 3 or more is $5.

Each artwork submitted must have a title and a short description no more than 200 words of their artwork

Only one entry allowed per individual or group.

All submissions must be appropriate for viewing by general audiences and should not feature personal, identifying information, such as names, addresses, etc.

Each submission will be judged on originality, creativity and how well the original artwork along with the title and description expresses the contest theme.

Winners will be selected from each of the following age groups: Kindergarten, Grades 1-3, and Grades 4-6.

The judges’ decision is final and neither the judges nor i-Matter will enter into any correspondence.

The copyright of each entry remains with the author. However, by entering the competition, the author grants iMatter the right to reproduce the works for promoting mental health awareness and marketing materials such as, but not limited to i-Matter's website, brochures, public information materials, social media, and exhibits.

i-Matter reserves the right to remove any entry that does not comply with the Terms and Conditions in any way, or any entry which contravenes any law, infringes the rights of any person or is potentially insulting, inflammatory, defamatory, obscene, offensive, discriminatory, indecent or otherwise objectionable or inappropriate (which includes, without limitation, any content involving nudity, malice, excessive violence or swearing) or any other content containing mature themes which are deemed, by i-Matter in its sole discretion, to be inappropriate for young audiences.

The information you provide to i-Matter is safe with us and we do not sell your data to third parties.

The winning entries will be exhibited at the Taiwan Center for one year.

We have selected an outstanding selection committee and our judges will be representatives from the Taiwanese American Artist Associations.

The grant money will be unrestricted and may be used in any manner by the recipient artist. The following prizes will be considered for each age category:

Most Popular Award $100

Each Grade Level Category will have 3 awards. The Most Popular Award will be judged across all Grade Level Categories and only one recipient will be awarded this recognition. A total of 10 awards will be granted in this competition.
