2024
ABOUT:
Join us in celebrating May for AAPI Month and Mental Health awareness month at the Taiwanese American Heritage Festival, as we dedicate our theme in advocating for senior citizens well-being. We strongly believe through art; we can heighten community awareness while reducing stigma. It is with the participation of individuals like yourself that we can further spread the word and provide multiple lens to look and dive into this important topic of geriatric mental healthcare.
The 2024 i-Matter Mental Health art competition invites all artists from grade levels kindergarten through sixth grade to participate in integrating a socially engaged art experience. In our journey we hope to break down societal stigmas and offer an opportunity to encounter and understand mental health through the lens of contemporary craft.
Submissions will be displayed in our i-Matter virtual art exhibit. Winners and some additional participants will be invited to be a part of our panel in a future Mental Health online forum to discuss their artwork.
Art submission shall be submitted at the Taiwanese American Heritage Week festival at Barnes Park by 4:00 p.m. We have an outstanding selection committee and our judges will be representatives from Taiwanese American Artist Associations.
THEME:
As we observe Mental Health Awareness Month, May 2024, we invited artists to share “Why is support and community important for us?”. By taking part in this event, artists are able to engage in the conversation around mental health. Not only are they empowered and motivated to be a part of this growing dialogue, but they are able to challenge biases and beliefs that exist in our community. We hope through this virtual art exhibit, stories can be shared, voice and perspective heard, as well as talents showcased to combat stigma.
Judging is based on originality, creativity and how well your entry expresses the contest theme. A team of judges will select the top submissions for each category from each age group. Your artwork once submitted, grant i-Matter the right to reproduce the works for promoting mental health awareness and marketing materials. Entries may be posted to the i-Matter websites and used in promotional materials.
